A History of Windermere School

Personal memories and historical accounts sent in by past staff and students have helped to produce this very interesting history. The story captures much of what has happened since the School's foundation in 1863.

The twenty-first century Stannites had invited Michael Jenkins, a distinguished former headmaster of St Anne's School, Windermere, to write the first account of the school's long journey from a house by the beach at Lytham, by way of the sand dunes of St Anne’s to the wooded fellside of Browhead above Windermere.

The accidental death of Michael Jenkins spurred the Stannites into rescuing his work in progress by inviting the writer Andrew Rosthorn to complete a history in time for their anniversary reunion in May 2013.

“The book exceeds all my expectations I spent a wonderful nostalgic afternoon in my garden reading it and laughed out loud several times. Congratulations to all concerned.”

“I was very happy and grateful to receive my copy of the History of Windermere School. Having lived in St Anne’s I’ve had connections with the School for many years and one of my aunts went as a pupil about the time of WW1. It is fascinating to read the real history of the School, so well presented. My husband, James, has been very impressed by such a well-written and presented production. Many, many thanks for sending it.”

"Really enjoyed it and so glad I ordered it. Great memories and it will be well treasured. A big lump in my throat reading all the great memories of Mr J and thinking of my own fond memories of him.”
B Kerr

“It's beautiful - understated, but a perfect tribute to this fantastic school and the amazing people who created it. My congratulations to all those involved in its production.”
