Adventure!
An International Mountain Leader worked with Year 6 last summer and afterwards wrote:
“I have never worked with such confident, articulate and determined eleven year olds before. It really was remarkable how they overcame the various challenges individually and led each other as a team; I was so impressed.”
At Windermere from Year 3 - 6 our students experience 2 hours of Adventure! as part of their timetable. During the summer months we follow the RYA youth sailing schemes and British Canoe Union Paddlepower awards. By the time the children leave the Preparatory school at eleven years old to move up to Senior school most are working towards their RYA stage 3, and Paddlepower Discovery (BCU 2 Star).“I have never worked with such confident, articulate and determined eleven year olds before. It really was remarkable how they overcame the various challenges individually and led each other as a team; I was so impressed.”
During the winter months our students work towards their National Indoor climbing awards, compete in Orienteering events, complete their Bikability Level 2 award, and learn Mountain Leader skills on the Lakeland Fells.
All this is being delivered through a unique scheme written by the school, the Elleray Adventure! Awards.
The Elleray Adventure! Award consists of ten elements and pupils must achieve certain standards in each element to receive a Bronze, Silver and ultimately Gold Compass Badge. They record all their achievements in a Log Book. This can be as part of their formal curriculum or extra-curricular time at school, with their family or with an external provider.
