Academic Curriculum
We are so passionate about providing good teaching and learning that we constructed our own curriculum, which is now a model for excellence in Primary Education. Although we still use many of the National Curriculum units of work, we have selected the most relevant and enhanced this with our own programmes. We believe all subjects at this age have their roots in Science, and therefore we have placed this exciting subject at the centre of our planning. Our small teaching groups, specialist teaching and facilities allow us to work at a very progressive level.

Something we are particularly proud of at Windermere Preparatory School is that we prepare pupils for life, not just for the next stage of their education. Responsibility, leadership, teamwork and a sense of belonging in the community are just as important as achieving the best possible entrance requirements or scholarship to their secondary school of first choice.

Our curriculum is designed to inspire every pupil in the school. It is so important at this early stage in education to nurture a passion for learning, and an enthusiasm to discover. Maths and English are taught at the beginning of each day when concentration levels are at their best. We use the Revised Framework along with a variety of schemes and new resources. The progress of each individual is checked regularly, and parents and pupils are involved in setting targets for the future. The broad and balanced curriculum is not only related to the Science scheme but to the world and environment around us. Being in the heart of the Lake District adds an exciting element to our teaching; the greater outdoors is our classroom. Preparatory School
