At Windermere School we welcome enquiries from prospective students and their families of all ages and nationalities.
For general enquiries, to arrange a visit, order a prospectus or to speak with the Admissions department please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone +44 (0)15394 46164
The first step is to contact Admissions for a discussion about your educational requirements. An information pack which contains a registration form, fees, term dates and details of scholarships and bursaries is available on request.
The next stage is to arrange a visit. During your visit teachers and key members of staff will be available to answer your questions, and guests are encouraged to join us for lunch in our Dining Hall overlooking the lake and fells. We suggest that term time is best so that our guests can see the school on a typical day. Some parents wish to visit initially without their children and arrange a second visit with children at a later date. We are flexible and accommodate to suit preferences.
Infant and Junior (aged 3-11)
Based at Elleray site our infant provision begins with Pre-School, which children can start from their third birthday and Reception at the age of 4. It can usually be arranged for pupils to enter in each year group at any time of the year.
Senior (aged 11-16)
Based at Browhead our senior provision is in line with national and international intake years.
For entry into Years 7, 8, 9, and 10, Entrance Examinations are set on English and Mathematics. Candidates will have a short interview with the Headmaster. References from previous schools are requested.
Year 7: This is the first year at our Browhead site. Many of our students join directly from our Elleray site, along with new students. Familiarisation visits begin two years prior when students are in Year 5. All interested applicants are invited during the summer term for a Activity Weekend. This is a relaxed opportunity to meet other students that will be at Browhead, and to experience a weekend of fun in what will be a new school. When students are in Year 6, they are invited to sit Assessment papers and Scholarships which are traditionally held in the January of the academic year prior to entry.
Year 9 and 10: We accept students for entry in the GCSE and IGCSE programme
Year 11: For entry in the 1 year GCSE and IGCSE programme a greater emphasis is placed on previous school reports and the interview
Sixth Form (aged 16-18)
Year 12: International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme students are offered places based upon previous examination results, internal assessment papers and interview.
All offers of a place are conditional upon the submission of a completed medical questionnaire.
Three of our four daughters have been boarders at the Senior School following our unexpected move to Hong Kong in 2012. One moved back to board at Windermere following two years in Hong Kong and our youngest can't wait to follow in her footsteps and return as an overseas boarder into Year 9. We cannot fault the standard of education and care which the girls have enjoyed throughout their Windermere journeys. In particular, we love the location - and the way in which the Lake District becomes part of the curriculum - and the international flavour of the Senior School.
Windermere School is such a unique community to be a part of. Not only is it based in a truly beautiful and inspiring National Park, but the environment created by staff and students alike makes for an incredibly supportive, proactive, exciting and international place of learning in which everyone can thrive and be the best they can be.
When you live there, Windermere School becomes more than just an academic institution. Apart from academics, the School puts great emphasis on personal development. To me, this has meant that my three years in the national park were some of the most positive, enjoyable and prosperous years of my life that have put me in a convenient position in terms of university and my future adult life.
I have sent my children to Windermere at 11 years old and is easy to say how they have feel. I have had to call them as they never have time to call home. Lots of friends, lots of fun, interesting education. I would recommend this school to everybody, it is a perfect choice to ensure your children will learn a new language open their mind and increase their international relations.
Our daughter is having a marvellous time at Windermere School. She has always been well supported socially and educationally. The staff provide a wide variety of fun and interesting activities within the classroom, encouraging learning and development in a relaxed and fun environment taking them from Forest School in Pre-Prep to Adventure lessons in juniors, the outdoor space and sailing school is also a real advantage as nowhere can offer what Windermere school has! We love what the school has brought to our daughter... happiness! We can't ask for much more, as she works well and comes home with a smile.
We see our daughter growing in confidence every week - both socially and academically. After a difficult time in her previous School, she is flourishing in the caring environment where she can be herself again. The tutor system at Windermere is very special and has played a huge part in her settling in, being encouraged to make the most of exciting opportunities on offer and feeling a valued part of the school community very quickly.
