Senior Boarding Life

At Windermere School we pride ourselves on creating an environment where all students can be confident and are ready to meet the challenges life presents. Students with a strong sense of self esteem can reach their full potential; whether this is on the sports field, academically, creatively, or challenging themselves in outdoor pursuits. Good relationships are key, and all staff members embrace their duty to provide support to each and every student.

We implement a sound pastoral care structure where each child is assigned a tutor to oversee both their academic and emotional welfare. In addition, both students and parents can seek advice from the faculty Head when necessary, and the School's Deputy Head oversees the entire pastoral system.

The emphasis is on open and honest communication. Our students feel valued and have confidence to step outside their comfort zone and achieve things that at first, they may not have considered possible.
Each of the three boarding houses has live-in Housemasters and Housemistresses to provide stability and a family atmosphere.

Boarding is available for children from the age of 8 years. There are many options to choose, and we aim to find the right balance that suits each child and family. Parents may select from full and weekly boarding, as well as flexi boarding for a night or two each week.

Our three boarding houses offer a home away from home experience, with comfortable lounges to relax with friends, wide screen TVs and kitchens. There are quiet areas for prep, with a schedule of academic tutors each evening providing specialist subject tuition.

Full boarders are able to make the most of their time with us; forging abiding friendships and gaining independence as well as knowledge. Weekly and flexi boarders benefit from the extended day too, with time and space to participate in a host of extra-curricular activities, pursue their studies and socialise with others.

The weekend programme is packed with trips to the theatre, tours of the area, shopping expeditions, plus leisure activities such as bowling and roller-blading. Closer to home, we offer regular craft workshops, watersports activity sessions, sports (including sporting fixtures) and games.

Evening entertainment such as discos, barbecues, quizzes, films and karaoke are a regular feature, with everyone encouraged to join in the fun and games. We do also understand the importance of home life and students are free to go home on weekends whenever they are able by arrangement with their House.
