EYFS Reception

During the first compulsory school year, children develop quickly and our Early Years team aim to do all they can to help your child have the best possible start. It is a very important stage in a child's education as the foundations for future learning and successes are put in place, including confidence and igniting the enquiring mind. We welcome children that are eligible for Funded Hours throughout their Reception year.

Once a child enters Reception the curriculum focuses on the 3 Prime areas of learning: Communication and Language, Physical Development and Personal, Social and Emotional Development as well as the Specific Areas: Mathematics, Literacy, Understanding the World and Expressive Art and Design. Children in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) learn by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking which takes place both indoors and outdoors. With their own outdoor provision, children in Reception thrive and are ready and confident for entering the next phase of schooling starting in Year 1.

At the end of the EYFS, our Reception teacher completes an assessment which is known as the EYFS Profile. This assessment is based on what they, and other staff caring for your child, have observed over their time in Reception.

Checking the progress of your child at this stage, coupled with plenty of informal assessment and progress records along the way provides the Year 1 teacher with plenty of knowledge and understanding of current strengths and areas that need further development or specific support. This is the beginning of their personalised pathway through a Windermere education, ensuring that their academic, creative and physical development is uninhibited and their individual character and personality allowed to blossom.
