International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

Through the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, Windermere School is able to develop students who:

  • have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge
  • flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically
  • study at least two languages
  • excel in traditional academic subjects
  • explore the nature of knowledge through the programme’s unique theory of knowledge course.

The IBDP prepares students for university entrance and/or employment by following a two year course of study, which can be broad or allow for specialism. This involves studying six subjects (a first language, second language, humanities, experimental science, mathematics and a sixth subject representing the arts or an additional course from the previously mentioned five subject areas). Of these subjects, three must be studied at Higher Level and three at Standard Level.

In addition to the six academic subjects, all IBDP students follow a course in Theory of Knowledge, write a 4000 word research-based Extended Essay of university level standard, and take part in non-academic activity covering creativity, physical activity and service to the community.
