Windermere School has acquired a strong reputation for combining high standards of teaching and learning with encouraging pupils to face outdoor and personal challenges, in a happy, caring and supportive environment. The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme has replaced A Levels in the Sixth Form, adding a more rigorous academic experience to prepare students for university and employment. Some students have taken the opportunity to combine aspects of the IB with BTEC courses.
Head of Windermere International Summer Schools and Holiday Programmes
The Headmaster, Ian Lavender, invites applications for the post of Head of Windermere International Summer Schools and Holiday Programmes. The school currently operates three International Summer Schools in July and August each year with students from around the world developing their English skills and enjoying the Lake District. There are also separate Summer Sailing courses and non-residential clubs for children and young people from the age of 6 to 16 during the Easter and Summer holidays. The Head of the International Summer Schools is responsible for all holiday programmes.
The previous post holders were instrumental in constructing the business plan, revising the educational programme on each of the courses, growing the Schools and securing Accreditation and re-acccreditation from the British Council.
This position is likely to suit someone with a strong desire to take responsibility for a growing part of the business of Windermere Educational Trust. It is envisaged that the International Summer Schools could generate a quarter of the income of the main School. It is a separate business within the Educational Trust, but bound by the same educational principles. Students who attend any one of the three International Summer Schools may attend the programme for several years and some may transfer to the main School. As such, it helps to support the main School and the work of the Admissions department. The branding, ethos and code of conduct is the same as that throughout Windermere Educational Trust.
This is a commercial role but for someone with an understanding of education, especially in an international context. The successful candidate could well be a graduate with very strong administrative skills, but also with a commitment to developing and growing this vibrant part of the business.
