This year, Windermere International Summer School welcomed students from all over the world to take part in an exciting programme of activities and English Language tuition in the heart of The Lake District. Students took part in a huge variety of afternoon activities, including sailing, kayaking, canoeing, go-karting, fencing, ghyll scrambling and much more!
Students used our private boats and kayaks at our pavilion and boathouse, Hodge Howe Watersports Centre. The weather offered warmer waters and stunningly clear views of Windermere from the lake.
There were also many exciting trips which took place during Windermere International Summer School 2018. Students enjoyed visiting famous UK cities, such as York, Liverpool and Manchester. Attractions included York Minister, one of the largest cathedrals of its kind in Northern Euorpe, well known for its historic significance and grandeur. Students also learned about the history of British chocolate production, at York’s Chocolate Story. They were able to create their own varieties and learn the different ways chocolate is produced.
Students also visited Manchester and attended Manchester City football ground, where they were able to walk around the empty stadium and explore the home of Manchester City Football Club. After learning about the Etihad stadium and exploring the football stadium, students enjoyed a shopping trip to Manchester’s famous Trafford Centre.
The students also enjoyed many creative activities, from arts and crafts to theatre, it was great to see the students enjoying the activities at Windermere International Summer School.
We are looking forward to continuing our International Summer School in 2019 and welcoming students to our 2019 courses.
Three of our four daughters have been boarders at the Senior School following our unexpected move to Hong Kong in 2012. One moved back to board at Windermere following two years in Hong Kong and our youngest can't wait to follow in her footsteps and return as an overseas boarder into Year 9. We cannot fault the standard of education and care which the girls have enjoyed throughout their Windermere journeys. In particular, we love the location - and the way in which the Lake District becomes part of the curriculum - and the international flavour of the Senior School.
Windermere School is such a unique community to be a part of. Not only is it based in a truly beautiful and inspiring national park, but the environment created by staff and students alike makes for an incredibly supportive, proactive, exciting and international place of learning in which everyone can thrive and be the best they can be.
