At Windermere School, our Adventure Programme incorporates not only water-based sports but outdoor Adventure. In Junior School, pupils take part in a full afternoon of adventure every other week beginning from Year 3.

Outdoor Adventure includes camping, fell and mountain walking, survival skills, navigation skills and orienteering. Each child completes their own Adventure Log Book, which is aimed at encouraging and developing their practical skills.

Hodge Howe, our private Royal Yachting Association accredited Watersports Center, is located on the shores of Lake Windermere, only minutes from the Elleray gate. During the summer months, we follow the RYA Youth Sailing schemes and British Canoeing Paddlepower awards. By the time the children leave Elleray, most are working towards their RYA Stage 3 and Paddlepower Discovery (British Canoeing 2 Star).

During the winter months, pupils compete in orienteering events and complete their Bikeability Level 2 Award, as well as learning Mountain Leader and survival skills on the Lakeland Fells.

We pride ourselves on our use of the stunning landscape and our prime location in England’s largest National Park, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our pupils have the opportunity to experience all that the outdoors can offer, and our qualified staff ensure that the Academic curriculum is matched by our Outdoor Education curriculum.
