OUTDOOR ACTIVITY PROGRAMME
The Outdoor Activity Programme at Windermere Summer School offers a transformative experience for pupils with an adequate level of English, ready to embark on a journey of growth and adventure. More than just an activity course, it inspires young minds to build resilience, determination, and life skills that will stay with them long after their stay. It’s a chance to explore the outdoors, discover inner strength, and learn valuable lessons in leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving.
Our location is second to none. Set in the Lake District, known as the Adventure Capital of England, Windermere Summer School offers access to England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike, and longest lake, Windermere, both forming a stunning backdrop to their daily adventures. This unique environment fosters awe and wonder, igniting a passion for exploration that lasts a lifetime.
This programme offers more than physical challenges. Pupils will engage in sailing, rock climbing, caving, and ghyll scrambling, developing tenacity, resilience, problem- solving, and communication. These essential skills serve them well in outdoor pursuits, the classroom, and future career paths.
Adventure is at the heart of this programme. Pupils immerse themselves in authentic British and Cumbrian culture through visits to farms and local attractions, gaining a deeper understanding of everyday life in this remarkable national park. We broaden their perspective on learning through creative writing sessions led by our qualified English teachers. Our back garden has inspired figures like Beatrix Potter, William Wordsworth, and even modern artists like Taylor Swift. These sessions encourage pupils to draw inspiration from their surroundings and produce meaningful work, leaving them motivated to continue their creative journey.
Our ultimate outdoor classroom turns mountain top, or lake-shore into a learning opportunity. Pupils assess risks, make decisions under pressure, and build trust. Working as a team, they forge strong friendships and learn the importance of collaboration.
Our staff are fully qualified instructors, passionate about safety and success. Windermere Summer School operates under an AALA licence, providing peace of mind that children are in the safest hands.
Pupils take part in two outdoor activities each weekday, totalling seven hours of adventure daily. Activities may repeat to refine skills, build confidence, and achieve mastery. The programme creates lasting memories, balancing fun, education, and personal development.
Pupils leave with a tool kit of skills and values that will benefit them for years to come.
