Bursaries are intended to broaden access to the School, through enabling children from diverse backgrounds to benefit from an independent education regardless of financial means.

If you wish to be considered for a bursary please indicate this when completing and submitting a Registration Form. Parents who wish to apply for a bursary will be asked by the School to complete a Confidential Statement of Financial Circumstances form. The form is confidential and requires full information about the family’s financial circumstances, with supporting documentation.

The school uses an independent company, Bursary Administration Ltd (BAL), to review and assess bursary applications. Shortly after receipt of the application form BAL will arrange a home visit to talk through the financial circumstances form and discuss the application. These visits are undertaken at the applicant’s home in a sensitive manner and all information is treated in the strictest confidence. The application and the BAL feedback will be submitted to the Business Manager at the School where a decision will be made about the value of the bursary that may be awarded.

The level of bursary award will be re-assessed every one or two years, using the same process. Prospective parents will be charged £40 for the initial review by BAL. There will not be any further charges for future reviews.

HMC Eastern European Initiative

The HMC sponsors and co-ordinates a scheme whereby schools can extend fee support of up to 100% to bright students in certain Eastern European countries to enable them to attend the Sixth Form in British schools. HMC undertakes the means-testing and academic evaluation of pupils in this scheme, in which Windermere School is pleased to participate. By doing so, the School contributes to international awareness, co-operation and friendship that transcends national borders and provides exceptional opportunities for deserving pupils.

The HMC Central and East European Awards of up to 100% reduction in school fees are available to candidates for Sixth Form entry, only on the recommendation of the HMC Central and East European Project.
