Our Forces parents are serving both across the UK and internationally, and we have many families based in Catterick, Ripon, and Harrogate garrisons.

We recognise that military life can disrupt continuity of education for children and that a long-term, stable environment provides more opportunities to develop all round potential. Living in a supportive and diverse community, our pupils develop those qualities of character that will distinguish them in later life as men and women for others. We work with military families to ensure that you only pay what you have to, we accept CEA (Continuity of Education Allowance) and you will only need to pay the minimum commitment towards the school fees.

Our boarding houses are flexible to the needs of our families, we want you to see your child when it suits you. So if you return from deployment you can take your child out to lunch, go out in the evenings, or have a weekend visit.

Why choose Windermere for your family?

Pastoral Care

As a school, we strive to do more than equip our children academically for the future. Developing resilience has perhaps never been as important as it is now and our forward-thinking pastoral programme has this aim at its heart.

We focus on teaching children how to proactively manage their mental health, how to appreciate and celebrate the community’s diversity, particularly neurodiversity and how to show compassion and kindness within the Windermere School community and beyond. The work of our form tutors, allowing children to experience mindfulness practice or reflecting with them on good sleep hygiene is supported by the work of our new Wellbeing Centre.

Our innovative Adventure programme sets Windermere School apart. It allows pupils to push their personal boundaries and develop the extra skills that are so vital for a successful life beyond the school gates. Generally, but not exclusively, this takes the form of adventure activities – sailing, paddle sports, climbing, caving, walking and biking.

Pupils realise that they are capable of more than they could ever imagine. They are inspired to embrace challenges and become well-rounded, resilient, confident and independent thinkers.

Strong academic results

At the heart of everything that we do is delivering an exceptional education for our pupils and ensuring that their formation, both inside and outside of the classroom, is the best in the world.

With small classes and positive teacher-pupil relationships enable pupils to achieve their full academic potential.

Private Watersports Centre

We are privileged to have our own Watersports Centre, Hodge Howe, less than a mile away. This unique facility, recognised as a Royal Yachting Association Youth Sailing Club, lies at the heart of our Outdoor Learning Programme.

At Hodge Howe pupils learn to sail, canoe, kayak, windsurf and wild swim. They also learn survival and map reading skills, participate in team-building exercises and gain first aid qualifications.
