At Windermere, we run a Forest School programme with our residential Level 3 qualified instructor. Each Forest School is unique and we have designed ours to utilise the wonderful wooded grounds of nearly 20 acres.
The fun begins outside, where the adventure continues with an area for building ‘dens’, small logs for climbing, outside chalkboard and drawing fence, Play House, large sand tray and waterfall play area.
We embrace the Forest School philosophy, which is to encourage and inspire individuals of any age through positive outdoor experiences. We run specialised woodland activities with our youngest children and it is here that we start to nurture the life skills that we believe are so important in children’s education – self awareness, independence, motivation, decision making, confidence and social empathy. There are weekly sessions as part of the timetable for Junior children up to Year 2.
Our Forest School site within our grounds provides a wealth of exploration opportunities. There are small trees and bushes to climb, magical places to hide, secret passageways through shrubbery and a log circle for stories, songs, discoveries and even toasted marshmallows.
Three of our four daughters have been boarders at the Senior School following our unexpected move to Hong Kong in 2012. One moved back to board at Windermere following two years in Hong Kong and our youngest can't wait to follow in her footsteps and return as an overseas boarder into Year 9. We cannot fault the standard of education and care which the girls have enjoyed throughout their Windermere journeys. In particular, we love the location - and the way in which the Lake District becomes part of the curriculum - and the international flavour of the Senior School.
Windermere School is such a unique community to be a part of. Not only is it based in a truly beautiful and inspiring national park, but the environment created by staff and students alike makes for an incredibly supportive, proactive, exciting and international place of learning in which everyone can thrive and be the best they can be.
