Windermere School has finished the 2017/18 academic year with another exceptional set of International Baccalaureate (IB) results. In…
The woodland campus overlooks Lake Windermere and provides a setting of inspiration for both academic achievement and physical adventure. The Senior School has broadly even numbers of boys and girls, and a similar ratio of boarding to day pupils. Nearly a third of our students are international. The traditional main building, Browhead, is the hub of school activity and includes the girls’ boarding house tucked away on the upper floors. Langdale House, our lodge-style boarding house for boys, has a spacious common room and timber deck for all pupils to enjoy during break times.
Hearty meals keep us going, served from our impressive dining hall with views over the lake. Seven days a week, full breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner are provided for boarding students, and weekday hot lunches are provided for day students. During the summer term, students are treated to barbecues by the lake at Hodge Howe, the school’s watersports centre and boat house.
Our goal is to ensure that all our students realise their true potential. Small class sizes, highly-skilled staff dedicated to our educational ethos of ‘learning by doing’, and a full range of opportunities and facilities have all helped the school to maintain consistently high academic standards.
Students are guided responsibly towards their GCSE examinations and encouraged to look ahead to the challenges of the Sixth Form. Through our University and Careers placement support, we help students to choose the correct path for the future, secure in the knowledge that life at Windermere School will give them a valued foundation to rely upon. We are proud that many of our alumni have degrees from prestigious universities, and that we have an expanding network of successful graduates working in interesting and fulfilling careers both in the UK and abroad. The majority stay in touch with the school and act as role models for our students.
Three of our four daughters have been boarders at the Senior School following our unexpected move to Hong Kong in 2012. One moved back to board at Windermere following two years in Hong Kong and our youngest can't wait to follow in her footsteps and return as an overseas boarder into Year 9. We cannot fault the standard of education and care which the girls have enjoyed throughout their Windermere journeys. In particular, we love the location - and the way in which the Lake District becomes part of the curriculum - and the international flavour of the Senior School.
Windermere School is such a unique community to be a part of. Not only is it based in a truly beautiful and inspiring national park, but the environment created by staff and students alike makes for an incredibly supportive, proactive, exciting and international place of learning in which everyone can thrive and be the best they can be.
