Over the last two years, 95% of our Sixth Form pupils gained access to their first-choice university, and 69% of our IBDP pupils went on to study at Russell Group institutions

Windermere School’s Class of 2023 received their International Baccalaureate (IB) results with a 97% pass rate of the IB Diploma and 100% pass rate of the IB Career-related Programme. With an international Sixth Form, 39% of pupils achieved the Bilingual Diploma, completing elements of the course across two different languages, placing them in a commanding position for both university and career outcomes. This cohort, had many challenges to overcome, having not been able to experience external GCSE examinations, their results show how their resilience has shone through and we could not be prouder.

At present, 68% of pupils have immediately secured places at prestigious universities. Murray Doull has secured a place at Sheffield University to read Civil Engineering, with Rowenna Hamilton reading Biological Sciences at Edinburgh University. Poppy Kearsley will be going to Leeds University to read Social and Political Sciences and Jack Rigby will be reading Animal Science at Nottingham University.

We are also pleased and proud of Stannites from our Class of 2022 who have secured their places at Russell Group Universities: Rebecca Yahya will be attending Edinburgh University to read Linguistics and English Language, Theodore Williams will read Biomedical Sciences and International Relations at Newcastle University and Georgina Osmond has secured a place at Newcastle University to read International Relations.

Interim Head, Jenny Davies said, “The IB gives pupils valuable preparation for success at university by encouraging breadth of knowledge and independence in their studies. I am delighted by the world class achievements of Year 13 and their teachers. We know these pupils have bright futures awaiting them and we are excited to hear about their successes as they enter into an exciting new stage.

Success for our ‘homegrown’ pupils

A total of thirty-two pupils sat the IB this year.

Eighteen of the cohort were IB Diploma candidates, two of whom will claim their place on the School Honours Board, which recognises IB pupils who achieved 40 points or more.

Murray Doull and Rowenna Hamilton both achieved 40 points, an extraordinary achievement, as only a small percentage of IB candidates globally achieve more than 40 points, the equivalent of 4A*s at A-level.

Both these pupils have been at Windermere School since Year 7, and we are phenomenally proud of their success.
