Windermere School’s Class of 2022 have achieved outstanding International Baccalaureate (IB) results with a IBDP average of 33 points, a one hundred per cent pass rate, and the school’s highest ever number of bilingual diplomas: 47%. This means that almost half of all our graduating students completed elements of the course across two different languages putting them in a commanding position for both university and career outcomes.

A total of twenty-nine students sat the IB this year. Seventeen of the cohort were Diploma students, three of whom will claim their place on the School Honours Board, which recognises IB students who achieve 40 points or more.  Bethan Handy achieved 41 points with Amber Kenny and Theodore Williams achieving 40. These are extraordinary achievements, as only 7% of IB candidates globally achieve more than 40 points.

On the strength of the recent results, over 70% of pupils immediately secured their first-choice courses at prestigious universities. This figure is in-line with our five-year average. A further 13% secured their insurance choice, and the remainder successfully secured places through the Clearing process. These universities included University College London, Exeter University, Edinburgh University, St. Andrews and the University of Manchester.

WINDERMERE SCHOOL'S OUTSTANDING RESULTS

Headmaster, Tom Hill said, “I am extremely proud to be able to announce the IB results published this morning. This cohort, above all others, have contended with so much in recent times and their efforts are writ large across the results we have seen today. They are ready for the future with both the currency of their grades and their strength of character. This is a testament not only to their dedication but to the selfless work of the staff at Windermere who have been with them every step of the way.”

This cohort more than any other had the greatest of challenges, having been deprived of external examination experience for 2 years and needing to return to a system looking to recalibrate standards. These results show how their resilience has shone through. Since 2017, when Windermere School was named The Sunday Times IB School of the Year, the School has continued to build on its success in presenting candidates for the IB Diploma. This year, nine students (53%) gained 34 points or more in the IB Diploma, with over 70% of students immediately securing their first-choice courses at prestigious universities.
