Scaling New Heights: Windermere School’s Annual Climbing Trip to Spain

3 November 2025

Last week, a group of Windermere School pupils headed to Spain for our much-anticipated annual climbing trip — and what an incredible week it was!

Over six days of climbing, pupils challenged themselves on stunning limestone crags under the warm Spanish sun. Under the guidance of Mr Platt, Mrs Roberts and our expert hosts, Rich and Sam at The Orange House, every participant made remarkable progress — both in skill and in confidence.

Our more experienced climbers impressed everyone by confidently leading routes up to grade 6b, demonstrating excellent teamwork and technical ability through solid belaying and smooth changeovers. Meanwhile, our younger climbers achieved outstanding personal milestones — tackling 30-metre routes, developing confidence at height and showing impressive focus and care while belaying.

Mr Platt reflected on the experience, saying:

“Six days of climbing went way too quickly! What a brilliant week watching everyone grow. The older students are now confidently leading up to 6b, belaying solidly, and handling changeovers like pros. The younger climbers have smashed their goals too — more confident at height, tackling 30m routes, and belaying with skill and focus. Huge thanks to Rich and Sam at The Orange House for being such fantastic hosts.”

The trip was a fantastic blend of adventure, teamwork and personal development — a true highlight of the school year.
