Welcome to Senior School - Year 7 to 11

At Browhead Campus, we provide a safe and traditional environment for pupils to grow in confidence and excel academically. We fully utilise our surroundings to develop their personalities and discover their strengths.

The woodland campus overlooks Lake Windermere, and provides a setting of inspiration for both academic achievement and physical adventure. The Senior School has broadly even numbers of boys and girls, and a similar ratio of boarding to day pupils.

The main school building, Browhead, is the hub of school activity and includes the girls’ Boarding House, tucked away on the upper floors.  Langdale House, our lodge-style Boarding House for boys, has a spacious common room and timber deck for all pupils to enjoy during break times.

Hearty meals keep us going, served from our impressive dining hall with views over the Lake Windermere. Seven days a week full breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner are provided for boarding pupils, and weekday hot lunches are provided for day pupils.

Our goal is to ensure that all of our pupils realise their true potential. Small class sizes, highly-skilled staff dedicated to our educational ethos of  ‘learning by doing’, and a full range of opportunities and facilities have all helped the school to maintain consistently high academic standards.

Pupils are guided responsibly towards their GCSE examinations and encouraged to look ahead to the challenges of the Sixth Form.

Windermere School pupils follow a broad curriculum that follows traditional subjects. However, we also engage the natural curiosity and enthusiasm of our pupils through Adventurous Learning in our stunning local environment.

Windermere Schools offers a combination of GCSE and IGCSE courses.

Windermere School has a thriving boarding community which makes up approximately 35 per cent of pupil numbers. Our Senior boarders live in one of two houses, Langdale House for boys and Browhead for girls.

The boarding house rapidly becomes a home-from-home and fellow boarders become extended family.
