Welcome to Junior School - Year 1 to 6

At Windermere School’s Junior School, Elleray Campus, we aim to care for your child in an environment where education is not just a journey, it is an adventure!

As well as our innovative curriculum, which is designed to develop articulate and confident children, the one thing that makes our Junior School truly special is the children themselves. The unique family atmosphere is evident the moment you walk through our blues doors. Our children are proud of their school family and learn to look after themselves, and each other, within our caring community.

Windermere School staff are inspired by the curiosity and thirst for learning that each child, regardless of their academic ability, naturally holds within themselves. Our task is to encourage each child to grow and learn. We allow them to ask ‘why’, to experiment, to challenge, to discover and to innovate.

Language, literacy and numeracy are fundamental but learning how to understand and translate ideas into action are essential life skills, that will sustain a lifetime of learning and prepare students for Senior School.

JUNIOR EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

For many children the real adventure starts at the end of the school day, when they have the opportunity to choose from one of our many after-school activities. There is a wealth of choice with art and craft, sports, music and games.

MOVING UP TO SENIOR SCHOOL

Our Junior School students will progress at the end of Year 6 into Senior School. We aim to make this transition as smooth as possible.

Throughout their time in Junior School children are given the opportunity to become familiar with our Senior School site.

Year 5-6 spend one day a week having lessons at the Senior campus, interacting with Senior School teachers in subjects such as French, ICT, Drama, and Sports. They are also invited to eating lunch in the dining room with Senior School students.

JUNIOR BOARDING

Windermere School has a thriving boarding community, which makes up approximately 35 per cent of student numbers across all year groups. Full and weekly boarding options are available, and where possible, we will try to accommodate flexi-boarding arrangements to suit individual needs.
