JUNIOR SCHOOL CURRICULUM
A varied, enriched Junior School curriculum is at the heart of Elleray, where the development of the holistic child is paramount. The pupils experience specialist teaching from their early years, including French, Art, Music and PE. In Upper Key Stage 2, the pupils move on to experience life in the Senior School, where they are introduced to further specialist teaching in Drama and Computing. They have the opportunity to use the stage at Browhead, where they practise and perform their annual Elleray Production.
Our pupils are encouraged to embrace everything they encounter and the Forest School and Adventure programmes foster this belief, whether that may be sailing and canoeing at Hodge Howe, climbing and orienteering on the fells or den building in our large, explorative school grounds.
Embracing the outdoors is important at Elleray and the pupils experience many learning opportunities beyond the school gates, from singing in the caves by candlelight to going on a bear hunt in the local woods.
Friendly competition is promoted at Elleray and all pupils have the opportunity to represent the school in a variety of sporting fixtures, including Tag Rugby, netball and cross-country. The pupils are appointed a house when they join Elleray and, from an early age, they work collaboratively and take part in Inter-House competitions, such as Performing Arts, debating and the Spelling Bee.
Moving Up To Senior School
Our Junior School pupils will progress, at the end of Year 6, into Senior School and we aim to make this transition as smooth as possible.
