Welcome to Sixth Form - Year 12 to 13

The decision of what to do after GCSEs is an important milestone in the academic career of all pupils at this crucial stage in their education.

For many pupils, their Sixth Form years are the happiest and most stimulating time of their school career as they work towards the world renowned IB Diploma or Career-Related Programme in preparation for university, apprenticeships or the work of work.

Our Sixth Form is not academically selective. We encourage our pupils to be independent and to express themselves by encouraging them to grow in whatever direction they are passionate about. The quality of our teaching, pastoral care the more ‘grown up’ environment is designed to support our pupils in finding the ideal pathway for their life ahead.

I hope the information on this website provides an insight into the life of our Sixth Form and I look forward to welcoming prospective Sixth Formers to Windermere School.

– Elizabeth Murphy, Head of Sixth Form

Offering two years of intellectual stimulation and a wealth of experience and opportunity: the Sixth Form at Windermere School provides ideal preparation for life beyond school.

Being a Sixth-Former at Windermere School means having privileges as well as responsibilities.  Our Sixth Form students enjoy the comforts of their own areas where they can study and relax.  Both Westmorland House as well as the Sixth Form Study Centre are for the exclusive use of Sixth Form students.  Instead of a school uniform, Sixth Formers wear smart business attire.

The Round Square and IB philosophy are infused within each study pathway to help develop each individual into a well-rounded,  independent learner, with a mature, reflective attitude to learning.  By offering the depth and breadth of the IB Programme and allowing our Sixth Form students to become young academics, we believe they will emerge as confident and capable young adults who are ready for the next phase of their education. We aspire for all our Sixth Form pupils to develop the following characteristics though their time with us, known as the IB Learner Profile >
