Windermere School Marks VE Day with Colour, Song and Remembrance

8 May 2025

Today, Windermere School commemorated VE Day with a vibrant and heartfelt celebration that brought history to life for our pupils. The school grounds were awash with red, white, and blue as children arrived proudly dressed in the colours of the Union Jack, setting the tone for a day of reflection, learning, and community spirit.

Lunchtime took on a festive flair with a traditional street party-style meal, evoking the jubilant atmosphere of the original VE Day celebrations in 1945.

As part of the day’s events, our Year 5 and 6 pupils visited the local memorial garden for a poignant service honouring those who served in World War II. The garden featured a stunning display of hand-crafted poppies, created collaboratively by pupils from Windermere School and other local schools—a beautiful testament to remembrance and shared heritage.

Throughout the week, Mrs Burtt-Jones enriched music lessons by introducing children, teaching classics from the era that helped bring history into harmony with learning.

Windermere School is proud to have offered its pupils a meaningful experience that not only honoured VE Day but also deepened their understanding of its significance.
