Windermere School’s GCSE Results lead to new Adventure

22 August 2024

Windermere School pupils celebrated their success and hard work today, 22 August 2024, as they collected their GCSE results. Our Year 11s again achieved an impressive value-added score of + 0.67, meaning that on average our pupils gained two thirds of a grade more in each of their GCSEs compared to the national average.

33.8% of all grades were 7-9 (A*/A) and 84% 9-4 (A*-C). In addition, our Year 10s taking one year science courses, achieved an average grade of 5.7 with 18% achieving the top grade 9 and 39% achieving grades 7-9.

Windermere pupils almost all take a wide range of subjects at GCSE, covering all areas of the English Baccalaureate which is excellent preparation for the breadth of the International Baccalaureate offered at Sixth Form.

This year we will offer the Adventure NCFE course which Edie J, who gained four grade 9s and four grade 8s at GCSE, will be studying. She will be joined by Silas T who achieved an amazing +2.55 personal value-added score in his GCSEs.

Aarupi J will be joining the International Baccalaureate Diploma course with nine GCSE grades 7-9 and as an Art Scholar. Vivienne S and Maisie D also achieved an impressive +2.34 personal value-added scores with Maisie gaining four 9s, four 8s and a 7.

Head, Frank Thompson said, “After the fantastic achievements of our Year 13 in the International Baccalaureate and vocational examinations, it is really exciting to see a new cohort joining us in the Sixth Form having done so well at GCSE. We are a non-selective school, and these results show the progress achieved from the hard work of both pupils and staff. Pupils ranging from the most academically able to those who find academic studies more challenging thrive at Windermere due to our small classes and individual attention.”

The school offers a mixture of IGCSEs and GCSEs which suits the pupils well. Universities draw no distinction between the two examination types and the combination ensures that the school can continue to offer courses to the pupils which are best suited to their aspirations.

At Sixth Form we offer multiple pathways including the International Baccalaureate Diploma and Career Pathways and a Vocational route. Students can study Business BTEC, Adventure NCFE or even both. After Sixth Form the majority of our students go on to higher education including Russell Group and QS World top 100 universities as well as graduate apprenticeships with leading employers.
