Year 5 Pupil Walks 85 Miles for Mountain Rescue
2 June 2025
Over the half term break, Year 5 pupil Esme and her friend Ophelia took on an extraordinary challenge — walking the entire length of the Dales Way, a route spanning an incredible 85 miles through the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District.
Their aim was not only to complete a physical feat, but to raise money and awareness for Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue, a voluntary organisation that provides life-saving support in remote and mountainous areas in The Lake District. The service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year — and relies entirely on volunteers.
Esme chose this cause herself, inspired by the bravery and dedication of the Mountain Rescue teams. She and Ophelia walked through every kind of weather — from sunshine to heavy rain — demonstrating exceptional resilience, determination and teamwork.
We are immensely proud of both Esme and Ophelia for their courage, perseverance and compassion. Their actions are a shining example of what it means to make a difference in the world around them.
Well done, girls!
