31 May 2022

Windermere School’s Junior Campus, Elleray, celebrates milestone with planting of Platinum Jubilee tree.

A platinum jubilee tree is the latest addition to the school’s fruit orchard, unveiled at a special event for the school community to mark the Queen’s 70 years on the throne.

Jenny Davies, Head of Elleray Campus said, “This is but a small token of our appreciation and respect for everything Her Majesty has done for the people of this country in her time as monarch, but one that I hope will be enjoyed by many generations to come. We strive for sustainability as one of our key drivers as a school, and we hope that this tree will help us in supporting wildlife and our stunning environment”.

The cherry tree, which is part of The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) initiative, will soon be embellished with a plaque in honor of Her Majesty and the celebrations.

After the planning ceremony, the whole junior school, along with their families gathered for a celebratory afternoon tea on the lawn followed by the annual Performing Arts Showcase which took take on the sunny outdoor stage. The celebrations were rounded off with ice-cream and sprinkles before families headed home for the half term holiday.
