Amy Bray’s ‘Power of 10’ workshop

5 December 2023

Windermere School welcomed a return visit from the inspirational Amy Bray, founder of the environmental activism charity Another Way (another-way.org.uk).

Amy founded the charity when she was 16 years old and now, having studied Marine Biology at university, she is launching an app to help students from different schools connect with each other to discuss environmental concerns and share ideas. Amy says, “I’ve created a resource that I wish I’d had when I was at school.”

We learned that environmental campaigning is not just about holding placards but how we can use our ‘super-powers’, using the Japanese concept of ikigai. Amy gave an overview of the resources that will be available on the app: how to guides; key theme presentations on Oceans, Climate Change and Food 4 Thought; eco-anxiety toolkits; and Home Challenges including Plastic Free and Go Zero.

Our students discussed how these resources might be used at Windermere School and suggestions included holding book swaps, improving the recycling in some of the boarding houses and addressing food waste.

Several students have volunteered to help in trialling the app, which will launch on on Friday 8 December, in the lead-up to Another Way’s ‘Power of 10’ festival being held at Rheged in February.
