Our tenacious U13 Hockey Team: Regional Runners Up

The girls secured an outstanding 2nd place at the North-West In2 Hockey T2 Regional Finals at Timperley Hockey Club, completing the day unbeaten and missing out on the title by just one goal on goal difference.
After progressing through district and county rounds – with only the top two at each stage advancing – just 18 schools remained in the competition. On finals day, the girls were drawn into a challenging opening pool alongside Kirkham Grammar, Sale, Wellington and Bolton. They rose confidently to the occasion, recording three impressive wins and one draw to progress through in first place.
The second stage brought another demanding round-robin group featuring Loretto, The Grange and Stockport Grammar. A strong win against Loretto, combined with two composed draws against The Grange and Stockport, meant they finished joint first overall. Ultimately, the title was decided on goal difference, with Stockport Grammar edging ahead by a single goal.
Facing significantly larger schools packed with experienced club players, the team adopted a simple motto for the day: “You don’t have to be perfect – just be brave.” They embodied that message in every match, showing courage, intelligence and relentless work ethic.
Defensively, they were exceptional. Rafaela marshalled the back line with authority, while goalkeeper Jenny Brooker delivered a superb performance – producing brave saves and conceding just once across the entire tournament.
In midfield, Mila, Florence, Indie and Shona covered extraordinary ground, transitioning seamlessly between defence and attack and driving the team forward with tireless energy.
Up front, Charlotte D and Charlotte O were sharp and determined, capitalising on opportunities and applying constant pressure in the attacking circle.
Finishing second in the North-West is a tremendous achievement. What made it truly special, however, was the manner in which it was achieved – with unity, sportsmanship and wholehearted commitment throughout.
They should be immensely proud.
