Photography Club
16 October 2020
This week we looked at the photographic skill of the Rule of 3.
This technique helps to define a shot by creating a ‘balance’ of 3 objects or 3 focal points in the frame. The idea is to teach the budding photographer not to place the chosen object in the middle of the frame but to place it either left or right of centre and to find 2 other differently sized objects to ‘balance it out’. In other words, students were asked to play with concept of symmetry and assymetry. Some students had fun with taking the ‘rule of 3’ more literally.
All in all, there were a variety of responses and some superb interpretations as usual. Enjoy!
