Remembrance Day at Browhead Campus

11 November 2022

103 years since the first two-minute silence was observed on Armistice Day, on November 11 1919, a 2-minute silence was held by all staff and students at the Senior School at 11am, following an assembly led by History teacher, Mr Ryan Hill.

All Senior School students then assembled at the flagpole to lay the wreath of poppies in remembrance of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. The Last Post was played beautifully on the bugle by Year 8 student, Jake.

“They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we shall remember them”.

At our Junior School, all children assembled outside the school for their two-minute silence, with the railings decorated by hand painted poppies, and Year 5 children read out poems they had composed.

Fire coloured poppies lean from side to side in the cold night sky.
They dance sympathetically like beautiful ballerinas among the leafy, green grass.
Cherry red poppies flutter gently in the blowing, whistling wind.
As they sway they help us remember the brave souls which have been lost.
