Windermere School’s Gardening Heroes
20 May 2025
Between January and April, the GGG (Good Gardening Group) was formed to help 3 pupils to fulfil the volunteer requirements of the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award.
Ethan, Jacob and Sam from Year 9 turned up every Saturday morning, rain or shine. They worked in various areas of the Browhead site, doing the cut back and preparation for Spring on the Browhead Terrace, the reward was an amazing display of snowdrops!
The group joined the Works Party in March (organised by Matt Fawcett) working hard to help clear the woodland paths with many other pupils and parents from the school.
The next project was to rejuvenate the Willow structure at the outdoor classroom which took many weeks!
Huge thanks to parent volunteers Sue M and Claire M who supported this work.
Finally, on the Windermere Train station platform, the group helped to plant up some hanging baskets and a new planter organised by Mrs Backhouse. Thanks go to Northern Rail and Windermere Town Council for their support and the railing baskets. Also to Levens Hall for the generous contribution of Spring bedding, enabling us to achieve a lovely display.
