Year 6 – Harry Potter Day

30 April 2021

As Year 6 are reading Harry Potter, we had a themed day and all came into school dressed up.

The timetable for the day included:

  • Going to Platform 9 ¾;
  • Writing acrostic poems in Hogwarts house teams;
  • Kahoot quizzes;
  • Travelling on the Hogwarts Express;
  • Potions and Charms lessons at Browhead;
  • A banquet in the Great Hall;
  • Tri-Wizard Cup Poetry Recital;
  • Researching, planning, making and presenting a new house drink.

Ethan: The best part of the day was learning about acids and alkalis in Potions. I enjoyed this because I had the freedom to explore and create different colours using universal indicator. Working with a partner, it was great to create things that we didn’t know how they would turn out.

Holly: The best part of the day for me was lunch. It felt like we were all at Hogwarts in the Great Hall because of the music and the table decorations. The food represented the Hogwarts houses and tasted delicious!

Daisy: Making the drinks was my favourite part. It included Maths, in particular, ratio and capacity. It was great to work with my team to create a drink that represented our house. They all tasted amazing.

Ava: Writing the acrostic poems in houses was fun because we got to be more creative and use our imagination. Before we wrote the poems, we had to research information about our house and then turn it into a poem.

Libby: I liked making the colour changing slime because we got to use different things which we wouldn’t normally use. I was surprised how it changed colour under the UV light.

Faye: It was really fun to come dressed because you could choose any character. I was Hagrid and others came as Albus Dumbledore, Argus Filch (and Mrs Norris), Uncle Vernon, Dobby, Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ginny Weasley and Angelina Johnson.

Harry Potter Day was outstanding. We all had a great time and can’t wait to read the rest of the book.
