Year 7 Explore the Outdoor Classroom

18 September 2023

Year 7 Scientists have been continuing their induction by learning about risk in the lab and in the outdoor classroom.

We cannot think of a better way of doing this than by making a fire, learning about kelly kettles (with obligatory marshmallows and hot chocolate!).

At Windermere School we choose to take our learning outside whenever possible. It is very easy to be a school based in beautiful place, but at Windermere, we choose to use our environment to enhance not only our pupils academic learning, but their entire development pathway, from our youngest children of three years old, to our Sixth Form making choices about their future lives.

Pupils who experience an outdoor learning environment are more attentive, while consistent exposure to nature decreases stress and anxiety, helps elevate mood and helps with emotion which all contribute to a positive learning experience. Pupils find their personal route to achievement, discovering their own strengths and potential while participating more actively in their own education. This is something we are very proud of as a school and Year 7 are already embracing every opportunity given to them.
