Children in Need from Year 6

5 November 2020

Year 6 have been given the challenge of organising a socially distanced event for Children In Need. Firstly, we would like to invite everyone at Elleray to come to school in their pyjamas on Friday 13th November. If you would like your child to join in, a £1 donation to Children In Need will be added to your school bill. Please let Ms Silverwood know on csilverwood@windermereschool.co.uk if you do not want to make a contribution.

We think Children In Need is important, especially this year, because some children are having a really hard time at the moment for example, not having enough food and not being able to learn like they normally do. People with disabilities may be finding it harder because of Coronavirus as they may be spending more time indoors and away from their families. Some children, with health conditions, maybe feeling anxious due to the current situation.

In class, we have been finding out about Children In Need. It started in 1980 by the BBC and it raises money and awareness to help make a difference to children who need some support.

We have planned lots of activities for each class to take part in next Friday such as, pin the bandana on Pudsey, a Pudsey treasure hunt and a fitness workout.

We have also planned some competitions and we hope that lots of you enter. For Pre-School to Year 2, we have organised a colouring competition. For Year 3 to Year 6, we have organised a design a Children In Need t-shirt competition. For everybody, we have organised a design a face mask competition, guess the weight of the sweet jar and guess the name of the teddy.

The ‘Guess the Name of the Teddy’ names will be shared with the children by their teacher from Tuesday next week. They will be asked to choose two names (per 50p entry) when we have received their order form.

At the end of the day on Tuesday to Thursday next week, one of us will be showing you the jar of sweets you could win. We will come and show you as you sit in your cars at pick up time. We won’t be able to let you hold it to feel the weight but you can see the size of the jar and the amount of sweets in ready for your child to guess. For younger children, you may wish to email Mrs Clark to let them know their guess (eclark@windermereschool.co.uk). Older children can submit their guesses in class.

As things are a little bit different this year, you will receive an order form on Monday 9th November. Please tick the competitions your child would like to enter and confirm the total. Send the order form to their class teacher who will give them a competition template to complete. Any money will be donated and then added to your school bill. Holly has been busy making scrunchies. She will be selling them and donating the money raised to Children In Need. You can order these using the order form.

We know it will be different this year but we are doing our best to make it as fun as possible and bring our school together.

What are you waiting for?

Come and help us raise money for a fantastic cause!

Thank you from Year 6
