Discover the Vibrant World of Year 8 Art: African-Inspired Lino Prints
19 November 2024
This term, our talented Year 8 Art pupils have embarked on an inspiring artistic journey, creating stunning lino prints influenced by the rich traditions of African art. Their work draws on the bold, simplified lines and geometric shapes that captivated early 20th-century artists like Picasso.
Picasso’s introduction to African art came through his friend, Henri Matisse, and an iconic 1900 exhibition in Paris that left the public both amazed and unsettled by its raw, expressive beauty. African art’s impact on Picasso and his contemporaries marked a transformative, blending traditional forms with modernist experimentation.
Channelling this spirit of innovation, our Year 8 pupils have crafted their own African-inspired mask designs, using coffee and pen to explore textures and patterns before transforming their ideas into lino prints. The results are truly remarkable!
Be sure to visit Browhead later this term to see their impressive work on display. Their prints are a celebration of creativity, cultural appreciation, and the power of artistic inspiration. Don’t miss this opportunity to witness the next generation of artists at work!
