Science in Action: Year 7’s Outdoor Classroom Adventure
3 February 2025
This morning, Year 7 pupils took their science lesson to the next level—literally! Swapping the traditional classroom for our fantastic outdoor classroom, they delved into the fascinating world of particles with hands-on activities that brought learning to life.
The lesson kicked off in the tastiest way possible: learning about melting points by letting chocolate melt in their mouths. Next, Mrs Holmes, had the pupils become particles themselves! Racing around the field, they acted out the movement of particles in solids, liquids and gases. This dynamic activity helped them grasp complex concepts in a lively and memorable way.
The excitement didn’t stop there. Year 7 put their fire-starting skills to use, using flint and steel. They then used their fires to boil water—putting their practical knowledge to the test.
To round off the morning, the boiling water was put to good use: making hot chocolate! As they watched their marshmallows melt, the pupils saw science in action in the most delicious way imaginable.
This interactive lesson was a perfect blend of education and exploration. It’s safe to say that Year 7 will remember this extraordinary science session for years to come!
