Year 10 Textiles: Stitching Creativity into Every Project

24 February 2025

This year, our Year 10 Academic Enrichment pupils have been honing their textile skills through a variety of creative and practical projects.

During the Autumn term, pupils mastered the basics of both hand stitching and sewing machine operation. Their newfound skills were put to excellent use as they crafted headscarves and aprons for the cast of Fiddler on the Roof, contributing to the production in a meaningful way.

Building on this foundation, the Spring term saw pupils refining their precision and accuracy. They first created bean bag stands for iPads or mobile phones, followed by charming Easter chicks that could double as paperweights—or even be used for learning to juggle!

Looking ahead, the group will be working on lined, reinforced shopping bags-for-life before tackling more ambitious projects that introduce sewing curved seams. With each project, our pupils continue to expand their technical abilities and creativity, gaining valuable skills that will serve them well in future textile endeavours.

We look forward to seeing their next creations!
