Year 8 Residential – Borrowdale Adventures
18 September 2025
Year 8 have returned from their residential, and what an incredible way to start the school year! Staying at the YHA in Borrowdale, pupils embraced the spirit of adventure with energy and determination.
One of the highlights was summiting Glaramara, where even the damp conditions couldn’t dampen spirits. Instead, the weather treated everyone to stunning rainbows and dramatic Lake District scenery.
The adventure didn’t stop there – pupils also took on the thrilling Climb the Mine experience at Honister, a challenge that tested teamwork, courage and resilience.
It was a fantastic few days filled with achievement, adventure and unforgettable memories. What a start to Year 8!
“The value of Outdoor Education is hard to quantify. However parents should be really proud of their son/daughter from this trip. We really didn’t have the best of weather for the ascent of Glaramara, but we had little or no complaints and everyone reached the summit on a wet and windy day, realising the value of good clothing. We heard students motivating others and looking after each other. A review chatting about type 2 fun, which they all agreed with – but that’s when we learn about ourselves. During the Climb the Mine activity even students nervous were encouraging others. That is really quite special. At night time they respected each other and slept very well. A great few days.” – Mr Platt, Head of Outdoor Education
