A Wet and Wonderful Adventure: Year 6 Wild Camp
12 September 2024
Our Year 6 pupils recently embarked on a wild camping adventure that tested their endurance, teamwork and outdoor skills. Despite challenging weather conditions, they demonstrated remarkable resilience and made us incredibly proud.
The journey began with a thorough check of their rucksacks as pupils packed essentials, including tents and Trangia stoves. With their bags loaded up, they set off on the 3km walk from Old Dungeon Ghyll into Mickleden, carrying all their gear like seasoned adventurers.
Once they arrived at the campsite, they learned the essentials of wilderness camping—how to pitch tents, cook their own meals on Trangia stoves, and even manage safe toileting in the wild. The evening was spent cooking dinner as a team, but just as they finished eating, the rain set in.
As the rain continued through the night and into the morning, Year 6 didn’t let the weather dampen their spirits. They handled the wet conditions with incredible maturity, showing resilience as they packed up camp and walked out in the rain. Throughout the trip, their teamwork shone through as they supported one another every step of the way.
It was a tough adventure, but Year 6 rose to the challenge. We’re incredibly pleased with how they handled themselves, and this experience will no doubt be one they remember for years to come!
