Windermere School’s Unforgettable Climbing Adventure in Spain
4 November 2024
From 19 to the 26 October, ten adventurous pupils from Year 8 to Year 13 set out on an exhilarating climbing trip to the stunning landscapes of Spain, accompanied by Mr Platt and Mrs Roberts. The group spent six full days scaling breath-taking routes and pushing their limits, all while staying at the famed climbers’ haven, The Orange House. This base became more than just a place to rest—it was a vibrant home filled with laughter, games and bonding after each day’s challenges.
The climbers tackled some renowned climbing venues, including two days at Sella, and one day each at Guadalest, Canelobre, Jabuga, and Barranquet du Ferri. Over the course of the week, the pupils completed somewhere around 40 impressive climbs, each one testing their endurance, resilience and teamwork.
One of the standout moments was the hilarious dynamic between Oscar and Jarema, whose witty exchanges had the whole team in stitches. During one climb, Oscar was struggling to understand Jarema’s shouted instructions from below. In typical Jarema fashion, he called up, “Oscar, communication is an important part of a relationship; you need to listen to what I am saying when we climb together!” Jarema’s had so many funny one-liners that entertained and uplifted the team throughout the week.
Evenings at The Orange House provided a chance to unwind and reconnect, with card games, lively chats, and pool games on what may well be the world’s wobbliest table! There was plenty of food to keep all of the teenagers happy!
It was an exceptional week filled with adventure, camaraderie, and laughter. A heartfelt thank you goes to Mr Platt and Mrs Roberts, whose dedication and passion make these incredible adventures possible. Their commitment to creating unforgettable experiences allows our pupils to explore new challenges, build resilience and make lifelong memories.
The 2025 climbing trip promises to be just as exciting, and details will be shared in the new year.
