Year 5 Residential Adventure
12 May 2025
Our Year 5 pupils have recently returned from an unforgettable three-day residential trip based at the Ingleton Youth Hostel—and what a fantastic time it was! With glorious sunshine each day and a packed programme of outdoor activities, the children showed resilience, teamwork and a wonderful spirit of adventure throughout.
Day One: Ingleborough Ascent The trip began with a challenging but rewarding hike up Ingleborough, one of Yorkshire’s famous Three Peaks. Starting in Chapel-le-Dale, the group made their way to the summit and then descended all the way to Ingleton village, where a well-earned ice cream awaited. We were so impressed by the way Year 5 looked after each other and kept going with great determination. Back at the hostel, everyone enjoyed a hearty dinner of sausage and chips followed by a delicious brownie, before spending a relaxed evening in the local park.
Day Two: Scrambling and Caving Day two brought even more adventure. In the morning, pupils scrambled up Barbon Ghyll—a dry stream bed that offered a mix of climbing and rope work. The afternoon saw us caving at Ribblehead, where many children bravely navigated narrow passageways they had initially been nervous about. Their courage and perseverance were inspiring.
Day Three: Rock Climbing and Teamwork On the final day, after packing up, we headed to Hutton Roof for a rock climbing session. Every pupil gave it their all, taking turns belaying and encouraging each other with great care and positivity. It was a fitting end to a trip that celebrated friendship, challenge and personal growth.
The Adventure staff were full of praise for the group, describing them as “super well-behaved” and a joy to be with. We’re incredibly proud of all our Year 5 pupils—they truly made it a trip to remember.
