Year 9 Pupils Achieve Second Place in Round Square Adventure Race
20 May 2024
We are delighted to announce that six of our Year 9 pupils—Emily, Holly, Seb, Josh, Joey and Jake took part in the 17th Round Square Adventure Race, hosted this year by Abbotsholme School in North Wales. The event saw participation from four Round Square schools: Windermere School, Gordonstoun School, Box Hill School, and Abbotsholme School.
The Adventure Race was a true test of endurance and teamwork, comprising various demanding activities such as rock climbing, canoe orienteering, bike orienteering, team challenges and night orienteering all on the Saturday. The climax of the event was a 12km fell race on the Sunday, traversing the challenging terrain of Yr Arran.
Our team performed superbly, securing an impressive second place. The trophy was taken home by Gordonstoun School after a well-deserved win. Despite the exhaustive nature of the event, our pupils pushed their limits and demonstrated remarkable perseverance and teamwork.
The final fell race stood out as a significant highlight. Unfortunately, an injury to Jakes knee prevented him from participating in this crucial segment. Nonetheless, the remaining five pupils—Emily, Holly, Seb, Josh and Joey—displayed extraordinary resilience by completing the 12km race from Rhyd Ddu to Llyn Gwynant via the summit of Yr Arran.
In a gripping finale, they managed to hold off a strong challenge from Gordonstoun School, crossing the finish line first after an intense two-hour race. Although the time difference ultimately awarded the victory to Gordonstoun, our team’s effort to keep them at bay was nothing short of tremendous.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Emily, Holly, Seb, Josh, Joey and Jake for their outstanding performance and unwavering spirit.
Well done to all participants for their incredible achievements in this demanding competition. Your dedication and teamwork are truly inspiring.
