Bespoke Adult Sailing Courses in the Lake District

Windermere School is proud to be able to offer bespoke adult sailing courses to suit your needs. These do not have to be an RYA course. It could be a sailing experience for the whole family or a taster session that’s fun and as exciting as you wish.

As a youth sailing school, we have many younger sailors that may rely on support from parents to get them afloat, or perhaps need someone to accompany them on the water. If you would like an adult sailing course based on sailing safely with younger sailors on board or just help with trailers and rigging then we would very much like to tailor a course to suit your needs.

These experiences and adult sailing courses could be an afternoon or longer depending on your prior experience and the type of course you would like.

Cost: £230 per day

Dinghy Sailing Courses

Learning in a dinghy is a great way to start sailing. Single-handers (boats sailed by one person) are a popular choice and can be the quickest way to learn due to being lightweight and easy to rig and launch. If you don’t fancy being in a boat alone, double-handers are larger boats designed to be sailed by two people, making it an enjoyable way to learn with others aboard. Once you’ve mastered the basics, there are plenty of opportunities to continue to develop your skills with our advanced courses.

Windermere School’s fleet of Dinghy’s includes 6 RS Zests, 2 RS Quests, 1 Hobie 16, 2 Laser’s and 1 RS 200

Our RYA training courses run over a 2 days or over 4 half days, preferably booked consecutively.

Keel Boat Courses

Bridge the gap between small boats and yachts with our keelboat courses. Keelboats are the largest of the small sailing boats and designed to be sailed by two or more people. They tend to be dryer and more stable than dinghies and multihulls, due to the weighted keel under the hull which reduces the likelihood of the boat capsizing. In some designs the keel can be raised making it easier to store and transport. You will find many of the same controls as on a dinghy, but with extra equipment you’d find on sailing yachts, such as winches. Keelboats bridge the gap between small boats and cruisers, offering the benefits of both to beginners learning to sail.

Small keelboats provide an exciting and cost-effective way for the whole family to get afloat. With courses preparing you for all varieties of sailing including the thrill of performance boats, racing and using spinnakers. Probably the quickest and easiest way to learn. Is to get afloat on a keel boat course. Windermere School offers Adult keel boat courses on board our Hunter 707 this is a fractional rig with large reefable main sail and symmetric spinnaker. We are also proud to have in the fleet a Drascombe Gig. This boat is Gaff rigged with a more traditional feel it has a lifting keel so perfect for parking on the beach or heading into shallow water. The Gig has a large reefable main sail, Jib and mizzen mast.

Our RYA training courses run over 2 days or can be run over 4 half days, preferably booked consecutively.
