NEWSLETTER – 19 January 2024
With mock and public examinations well underway it is a period of intense application for our Year 11s and Sixth Form at the moment. For the Year 11s, I am sure they will be pleased to be finishing this week and for the Sixth Formers, it’s a matter of another week to go. At least as valuable as the experience of taking mock examinations is the feedback from teachers when the marked scripts are returned. We learn so much from our mistakes. Examinations consolidate learning and feedback provides some of the best guidance on how to improve. The value added at Windermere School is high and one of the richest opportunities for boosting this is to make the most of feedback, so we will be urging pupils to think carefully on their feedback and on what their personal next steps to improvement are.
We welcomed this week two pupils, Hal and Takaki, from their Round Square school in Japan, on exchange. In the meantime, Holly J and Elyse G (Year 9) are away to separate schools in Canada learning to cope with real winter weather as well as a different school environment.
The cold affected our racing teams who were out competing last weekend. On the Sunday the crews were having to defrost their ropes with warm water before sailing. A great thank you to Mr Brooks, Director of Performance Sailing, and our volunteer parents for enabling our pupils to be able to compete. It was a determined performance from both teams and you can read more about it here.
Next week we launch our 50 Acts of Kindness to begin our celebrations of 50 years of membership of Round Square this year. These acts will be linked to each of the six IDEALS and through this we hope to both bring alive the values of the school and give a real boost to our wellbeing. I will let you know more in the next issue of the newsletter.
Also coming up is the return of the annual Performing Arts Week. There will be a separate letter giving you more details, but we hope you will join us for a very entertaining show at 17.00pm on Saturday 3 February.

Our Early Years ‘Drop In’ Open Morning will be held on Wednesday 7 February, from 9.30am to 12noon, and I would be most grateful if you would assist us in publicising the event to friends and family who may be interested in attending.

While we do offer tours and visits to the school all year round, Open Events are special. They allow prospective families to see at a glance what makes our school such a special place. Prospective parents will have the chance to learn more about our exceptional Early Years programme, ask all their most pressing questions to our friendly staff, join in activities with our Early Years children and experience the adventure that is Windermere School first-hand.

Careers Conference
We are holding our second Careers Conference on Friday 15 March 2024. The emphasis for the conference is going to be on the skills needed for the future.
