Stannite Spotlight – From Browhead to the Skies
Philipp left Windermere School in 2020 and, at just 24 years old, is quite literally flying high.
His aviation journey began in Summer 2020, right in the middle of Covid-19, at Hillsboro Aero Academy in Portland, Oregon. In under two years, he earned his Private, Instrument, and Commercial pilot licenses, along with his Flight Instructor and Instrument Flight Instructor ratings.
From Los Angeles tours and aerial filming, to training Law Enforcement and Border Protection pilots, Philipp’s career has soared. This year, he took to the skies as Second-in-Command on the UH-60 Blackhawk, helping to fight wildfires in San Diego County. He’s also become a safety leader with the FAA Safety Team, making the helicopter industry safer for all.
His advice?
“The most difficult part of learning to fly a helicopter is hovering — it takes time, resilience, and patience. Don’t get frustrated if life doesn’t go as planned. Embrace the challenge, enjoy the journey, and you’ll get there, even if it takes a little longer.”
Well done, Philipp — you are an inspiration to Stannites everywhere!
