NEWSLETTER – 22 May 2025
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we approach half-term, we are already getting accustomed to being an all-through school at the Patterdale Road campus. Last Friday’s Grand Opening was hugely enjoyable and we were very grateful to Colonel Chris Sanderson, Deputy Lieutenant of Cumbria, for joining us and formally opening our new Prep and Pre-Prep. On a blazing hot day, the Junior Choir did exceptionally well to remain focused and sing so beautifully. I also think Colonel Sanderson, who was in full uniform, replete with sword and cap, withstood the heat impressively!
This May has given us seemingly endless summer days and the outdoor activities, from the Year 5 residential to the Round Square Adventure Race at Gordonstoun have been fabulous experiences for all who were involved. They will have created memories for life – something I daresay the Sixth Form production will have done too. The Year 12s performed a unique version of a Midsummer’s Night’s Dream, well interpreted for an appreciative audience and very funny.
Our Lower School also had a very stimulating trip to the UCLan science fair. Mixing with other schools and engaging fully with the talks and exhibitions, it was the sort of event to inspire young people to pursue Science for the future.
The IB examinations finished yesterday, Wednesday 21 May, and delighted and slightly dazed Year 13s were suddenly free after months of hard work. Their IB qualifications will not only win them places at universities across the UK and the world, it will mean they are already prepared for the style of learning and assessment expected of them in the first year of their degrees. They will be able to start the next phase of their education with confidence and we look forward to celebrating with them at their Graduation Ball on Friday.

Stannite Spotlight: Alex Secures a Spot at Mountview!
We are thrilled to share the fantastic news that Stannite Alex has been offered a coveted place at the prestigious Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London to study for a BA (Hons) in Acting. This offer follows an incredibly competitive and demanding audition process, and it’s a testament to Alex’s talent, perseverance, and dedication to the craft.
What makes this achievement even more special is that Alex will be returning to Windermere School to share a personal reflection on the drama school audition journey. From the application process to performance preparation and navigating the ups and downs of not always succeeding on the first attempt, Alex’s insights will be an invaluable resource for any aspiring performers within our community.
We look forward to welcoming Alex back and are proud to see yet another Stannite making waves in the world of theatre.

Celebrating Jack – A Summer School Wedding to Remember!
We’re thrilled to share some wonderful news from our International Summer School family – our brilliant Head of International Summer School, Jack, has just tied the knot!
Jack and his new wife, Beth, were married on 21 May 2025 at the stunning New House Farm in Lorton, surrounded by loved ones and the beautiful Cumbrian landscape.
Their love story is as modern as it is heart-warming. The couple first connected through social media when Beth reached out to Jack for hiking advice about Blencathra – a true Lakes romance in the making! What started as a shared love for the outdoors quickly blossomed into something much more.
In 2023, Beth made the move from Newcastle to the Lake District to be with Jack. The couple, along with their energetic Sprocker spaniel, Wilf, embraced life together in one-room bedsit. Not long after, they bought a campervan and spent time travelling around the UK, making memories on the road.
Jack proposed to Beth on a sun-soaked Croatian island, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Please join us in sending the happiest congratulations to Jack and Beth as they start this exciting new chapter. We can’t wait to see what adventures lie ahead for this fantastic pair (and of course, Wilf!).
Please note, all pupils need to be wearing their own suntan lotion during this (lovely) sunny weather. We do not stock any, as there are a lot of allergies to different types. Ideally, pupils need to bring their own in, or have a once a day application applied in the morning.
